SG Lewis feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – ‘Again’
There really doesn’t seem to be a producer out there delivering such variety with such consistency as SG Lewis. It’s been over two years since I first started raving about him and the deliciously mellow sound he was spreading all over the place, and ever since he’s yet to disappoint through his own solo work, copious big-name remixes (e.g. Dua Lipa, London Grammar, Michael Kiwanuka), enchanting collaborations (Clairo, AlunaGeorge, Gallant), magical live sets, or even on production duty (Dave, Ray BLK, LANY). This year, he’s also proved quite adept at putting out an impressive debut album with equal parts delivery and execution, spreading each of the Dusk/Dark/Dawn components of the evening he’s depicting over their own separate EPs.
With a rather large show at Printworks looming next month, now seems a rather perfect time to be getting that second chapter into the world, and if ‘Again’ is anything to go by then I’ll have run out of superlatives by the time he’s finished. What we have here is five-plus minutes of melancholic electronic magic courtesy of the scene’s brightest young star and – in special guest Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, who himself is on a pretty brilliant roll since releasing his first records in four years over the summer – the last man to have proved himself quite so pristinely adept at making me both dance like a maniac and weep like a baby with the same release.
TL;DR: pretty bloody good isn’t it
